Basic marketing for listings

To succeed on NZZL, hosts should focus on photos, descriptions, amenities, and pricing. These are the areas guests look at first when deciding where to stay.

Photos

High-quality photos are one of the strongest factors influencing booking decisions. Clear images help highlight Moroccan design elements such as tadelakt walls, zellige tiles, riad courtyards, rooftop terraces, and traditional decor.

It is encouraged to:

  • Use natural light and photograph during golden hours.
  • Highlight unique Moroccan touches (carpets, lanterns, arches).
  • Include photos of communal areas, terraces, and views.
  • Consider hiring a photographer or using NZZL’s photography support if available.

Listing description

A strong, factual description helps guests understand exactly what to expect. Avoid overly subjective adjectives — stick to clear, helpful details.

Examples of useful facts:

  • “Private rooftop with Medina views”
  • “Located 5 minutes from Jemaa el-Fnaa”
  • “Traditional hammam-style bathroom”
  • “Fast fibre-optic internet for remote work”

Focus on accuracy to build trust and avoid misunderstandings, especially for travellers unfamiliar with Moroccan home layouts or neighbourhoods.

Amenities

Guests often filter by amenities — and in Morocco, certain features are especially in demand.

Commonly searched amenities

  • Wi-Fi
  • Air conditioning (critical in summer)
  • Heating (critical for winter months)
  • Kitchen access
  • Washer
  • Free parking
  • Pool access (riads, villas, or guesthouses)
  • Self check-in with a lockbox or smart lock

It is encouraged to

  • Ensure all available amenities are accurately listed.
  • Upgrade essentials like Wi-Fi (important for digital nomads).
  • Add small comforts: tea sets, toiletries, filtered water.
  • Consider safety features such as smoke detectors, first-aid kits, and clear check-in instructions.

Pricing

Some Moroccan hosts may be new to dynamic pricing.

Effective strategies include

  • Offering weekly or monthly discounts to attract long-stay visitors.
  • Adjusting prices based on the season (e.g. peak periods in Marrakech, festivals, desert-tour season).
  • Lowering cleaning or service fees if they are discouraging bookings.
  • Monitoring performance weekly — if bookings come too fast, raise the rate; if views are high but bookings low, consider reducing it.

Guest reviews

Reviews matter — many travellers read them before booking. See reviews as an opportunity to show care and professionalism.

Decide who will respond to guest reviews. Be prepared and draft sample replies.

Examples

  • Thanking guests: “Thank you for your kind review! We’re happy you enjoyed your stay in Morocco.”
  • Addressing issues: “Thank you for the feedback. We’ve improved the water pressure to ensure a better experience for future guests.”

A thoughtful response — especially to critical feedback — shows guests that the host values improvement.

Keep the listing updated

When you make upgrades — Wi-Fi improvements, new decor, renovated bathrooms, added AC — include:

  • Photos
  • Descriptions
  • Amenities list

This keeps the listing relevant, competitive, and aligned with guest expectations.
